Solar, finally

Solar panel installation complete. 4 panels at 390 Watts each.

After we bought our rig we spent weeks moving in and organizing. We were living and working onboard so everything was done while living our daily lives. We had intended to have solar on the rig from the first time we came up with this idea. As our departure date from Birch Bay, WA loomed nearer, panic set in. Nothing had been ordered and a plan was not in place. I called Battleborn Batteries and they talked the process through and took my order for almost all components short of solar panels and wiring. A semi-trailer arrived later in the week with pallets of high tech parts. These were dumped on board and we drove off on our adventure.

Yesterday the installation was complete. Little electrons are flooding from the roof through carefully planned cables and electronic do-dads. It’s like giving birth. It’s been thought about for a long time. Watching it grow over months. Then the anticipation of watching the first morning and wondering if it will work. The small failure – backwards connection and the final moment when it works!

How long does it take before a new parent stops watching the baby monitor every moment?
