Solar, finally

Solar panel installation complete. 4 panels at 390 Watts each.

After we bought our rig we spent weeks moving in and organizing. We were living and working onboard so everything was done while living our daily lives. We had intended to have solar on the rig from the first time we came up with this idea. As our departure date from Birch Bay, WA loomed nearer, panic set in. Nothing had been ordered and a plan was not in place. I called Battleborn Batteries and they talked the process through and took my order for almost all components short of solar panels and wiring. A semi-trailer arrived later in the week with pallets of high tech parts. These were dumped on board and we drove off on our adventure.

Yesterday the installation was complete. Little electrons are flooding from the roof through carefully planned cables and electronic do-dads. It’s like giving birth. It’s been thought about for a long time. Watching it grow over months. Then the anticipation of watching the first morning and wondering if it will work. The small failure – backwards connection and the final moment when it works!

How long does it take before a new parent stops watching the baby monitor every moment?

Leaving Home! Goodbye Snoqualmie Valley

We sold our house! And got rid of over 30 years of stuff!

With two weeks remaining until closing on our house, we realized we needed a place to live. The great people at RV Country in Fife had the Grand Design Solitude 375RES we had our hearts set on, so we signed the papers. I ordered a hitch, installed it and picked it up the next weekend. Having never driven a 5ver (Fifth wheel trailer, we’re learning the lingo) I was pleased to have the company of our neighbor to copilot the drive home. It pulled effortlessly and was soon parked in a neighbor’s empty lot. Many days of frantic packing, a going away party and a few tears later, we were homeless and on our way!

Truck and Trailer
Leaving the dealership. First drive!
Last days at home. Just like when we left university and moved to Redmond, we only had lawn chairs and a box. The lawn chairs are nicer now!
More to come about our first stay

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining us!

Our first campfire

When we started our travel we were in Birch Bay, Wa. Being late October and early November it was cold and wet. We didn’t spend much time outside. Along the way we used the gas fire bowl occasionally. Tonight here in Chula Vista we bought some firewood and lit a real fire. It was heavenly.
